Each of our axes starts with a vintage, American made axe head. After re-shaping, lightening, and a razor-sharp, convex edge is established, each is hung on a premium hickory haft. Each axe ships with a handmade 8-9oz European veg tan leather sheath with brass hardware. The deep red sheath can easily be spotted when misplace or laid on the forest floor.
Council Tools vintage head lightened to about 2lbs. A good weight for packing in, but not too small to do some serious work around camp like limbing and splitting. The bit has been hand ground to a full, zero grind convex. This type of grind is stronger than a flat grind and works to split wood more efficiently without as much sticking.
An vintage 2 1/2 lb Council Tools Cruiser Axe head on a 20" Hickory Haft. One bit is sharpened for splitting and grubbing while the other is sharpened for hewing and carving. The handmade leather sheath can be remove all at once or just one side safely covered and the other exposed for detail work like carving.
An authentic 2 1/4 lb US Forest Service Axe head on a 24" Hickory Haft.
